Cornelius Pickleball Programs

Lake Norman Pickleball Association is excited to partner with Cornelius Parks and Recreation to provide educational clinics. We will be offering clinics in multi-week series that will build on different skills each week. We will also be offering one-day clinics targeted to one specific skill. Clinics will be based on skill level. Signing up for the correct skill level helps both you and the instructional group get the most from the lesson. Please see the current clinic offerings below.

LKNPA does not want financial hardship to be a barrier to participation. We offer a scholarship program for those that meet qualifying criteria. If you feel you may qualify, email Dave Mancuso (dave.lknpickleball@gmail.com) for more information.

LKNPA members need to login prior to registering to receive member discount. If you are not a member, but would like to join to receive clinic discounts and other benefits, please click the Join tab above for more information.

    Fall Ladder League - Beginner/Low Intermediate (3.25 and under) 5:15 - 6:45 p.m. Session

Ladder leagues are organized leagues in which players sign-up individually and compete against each other in a structured weekly format. The rungs on the ‘ladder’ represent a player’s current position (ranking) on the ladder relative to the other players. Over eight weeks, players will participate in a round robin format with the four other players on your assigned court.  Scores are tallied weekly, and players will move up or down the ladder depending on their performance, creating quality matches each week for all players.

We ask that you consider your skill level and your availability when selecting a session.  We will likely have more people wanting to play than spots available so we ask that you not take a spot if you believe you will be unavailable two or more nights of the session. Players who have an excessive number of weeks they are unable to participate will not be able to register for future sessions.

As a reminder, only select ONE session to register for as we have a large amount of interest. If you are not able to commit to 8 weeks but want to be a substitute player when someone will miss one of their weeks, then you may signup to be added to the sub list.  Please register for the appropriate sub list based on your skill level.  The Ladder League committee will seed the substitute players as we do the ladder league players to ensure fairness on the courts.  Membership is required for both playing as a registered player in the league as well as being a substitute player.

Signup for the sub list is NOT on the LKN website but can be found here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0548AFA62FA3F94-47922440-lknladder

Looking for an alternative activity for lunchtime? Why not get outside and improve your pickleball skills? These midday clinics will be limited to a small group of players for an hour of focused skill building.

This clinic will focus on what most pros will say is the most important shot in pickleball.  Once mastered, the 3rd shot drop is a game changer and is what will help you move your game to the next level. Attendees will learn why this shot is so important, when to use it, how to execute it, and will be given drills to use to refine your 3rd shot drop. We will also discuss and learn when a 3rd shot drive may be more appropriate.

Please join the Lake Norman Pickleball Association (LKNPA) as we welcome those interested in learning about the fastest growing sport in the country that has a weird name but is loads of fun… PICKLEBALL! For only $15, you can see why everyone is talking and enjoying this sport that is enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities. People aged 4-100 are taking over courts throughout the nation, meeting new people and getting some exercise while doing so!

The LKNPA is proud to host a beginners only (16+ years old), “Introduction to PICKLEBALL”, starting at 5pm at the TORRENCE CHAPEL PARK COURTS. The first hour being spent learning all about the sport, paddle, court, ball and why everyone is loving and talking about pickleball! Time will be spent introducing the basic shots, rules and game play. Then at 6pm, the fun continues when the courts open up to other beginners that already know the basic rules of the game.

Please try and bring your own paddle. Dick’s Sporting Goods in Birkdale Village and Academy Sports in Mooresville have a healthy selection of paddles and there is always Amazon. You might already be wondering… “which paddle is for you?” Do not stress over that until you get a good grasp of the game and then you will understand what you want in a paddle.

If the courts are too wet at 4pm the day of the clinic, I will send an email out and the clinic will be postponed to the next week. Hope it doesn’t rain.

Do lobs frustrate you?  Do you just give up on them when they're hit behind you?  Attend this clinic to learn how and when to execute your own lobs effectively and also the most efficient and safe way to retrieve lobs.  Since overheads are a natural by-product of lob defense, we will also focus on hitting firmly hit but well-placed overhead winners.

This clinic will focus on standing your ground at the kitchen line using block and reset techniques to counter hard hitting players.  This clinic will teach you how to use these shots to bring "bangers" to the kitchen line and win more points by slowing down the game and using dink rallies to frustrate your opponent.  This is a must-have clinic for players who want to neutralize players who mostly drive the ball.
